Day Ten

Day ten is a Saturday which is usually at least a partially working day for me.

I had wonderful intentions of going to yoga class, sitting down at my desk and banging out a deliciously large word count.

But it was not to be.

Last night my daughter called and said, "I haven't seen you in so long. Want to go get our nails done tomorrow? We can go to that cool place downtown across from the Taco Bell."

Now I know I'm making this nail place sound like a dive. Across from the Taco Bell? But I knew of the place she meant, and it's a trendy, upscale place with plush white leather seats and pedicure soaking baths that look like high priced crystal bowls.

"I'm paying," she said.

Let me tell you that was music to my ears. After years of footing the bills for my kids, it's a sheer delight to have them working and pulling out their wallet.

I jumped up twice and said, "Where do I sign up?"

And that's the thing we need to remember about our art. It's important, and it's not important. It matters, and it doesn't matter.

Relationships matter.

Especially when your daughter offers to pay.

We had a wonderful day together, and yes, I even wrote a few words when I got home.
