Love Advice
Today something odd and exciting happened.
As an author, I'm always trying to think up fresh content for my mailing list subscribers.
One of the things I write is a love advice column from the point of view of Justice Hamilton, a character from my romance novel, Riptide of Romance.
It's a fun, fluffy piece that answers goofy letters to the lovelorn.
I always end the advice column with a call to action: "If you have a question for Justice, send it in!"
Well, today I received a heart-rending response from a lovely woman who's going through a tough time and asked for Justice's advice.
Okay guys, let's fess up here.
I took a few psychology courses in school, I've always had a deep interest in the human psyche but I'm a fiction writer.
And then I started thinking about this. That's what fiction writer's do.
We study people.
I thought about what I wanted to say to this reader all day long and realized that yes, I do have some experience in the situation with which she's dealing.
So I wrote back and I have to say, it felt amazingly wonderful to be able to give some small amount of life advice and encouragement.
Whew.
Now, where's my therapist's couch?
