Staples aka Heaven
Today I met my daughter for lunch at our favorite bagel sandwich shop which also happens to be located in the same shopping center as Staples.
I used to be an outside sales rep for the corporate division of Staples.
I was the smiling blond surfer girl who'd walk into your business and tell you why you needed to buy all your paper clips from moi.
Next to making up stories, it was hands down the most fun job I ever had because I got to be around office supplies all day long.
So it was when I walked into the Staples today and inhaled the scent of writing paper and post-it notes a chill covered my body, and I felt like genuflecting.
I spent more than my share of time in the pen aisle, moved to the notebook department where I purchased several of my favorite notebooks--the kind with puppies, kitties and smiley faces on the covers. It always helps to take yourself as un-seriously as possible.
After lunch, I went to work on my story, and it was one of those days when all the fancy pens, notebooks, and Staples stores just couldn't break through my resistance.
A lot of my days are fun--don't get me wrong--but sometimes it feels like I'm fighting with my creative brain.
So, I finally went into the kitchen, ate an entire basket of fresh blueberries, lay down on the sofa to listen to a podcast, went back to my story and what I'd written was not as bad as I thought.
Tomorrow, the sun will rise, I promise.
