I Swear I Made This Up!
The other night surfer boy and I watched the movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic.
While the movie's not going to win an Academy Award, I found myself holding my stomach laughing.
The story is pure slapstick fun, and it's a romantic comedy with all the goofy tropes we've come to expect.
What's fortuitous about this movie is the fact that it stars Isla Fisher.
Allow me to explain:
She plays a fun-loving redheaded cutie, a city girl obsessed with clothes.
She's also a writer.
The protagonist in my next book is a fun-loving redheaded cutie, a city girl obsessed with clothes.
She's also a writer.
My character's name is Isla Lang.
The actress in the movie's name is Isla Fisher.
Isla Lang Fisher to be exact.
Cross my heart and hope to die, I swear I made my character up from scratch.
In her brilliant book Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert talks about how ideas float through the universe looking for human collaborators to bring them to life.
She also tells us that sometimes ideas visit more than one person.
I love this. You know why?
I'm close to magical, mystical, pull-a-rabbit-outta-the-hat magic.
Call it woo woo, weird spirituality or just plain coincidence.
I love calling it magic.
