Staring Out Windows
Sometimes writing books is hard.
Today I tackled the task of revising the "All Is Lost" moment in my novel.
As I read my first draft I thought, "These characters are not taking this anywhere near enough seriously. What is this? This sucks!"
I stared out the window and thought. And thought. And thought so hard that my head hurt.
Then I rifled through my novel notes. I keep a binder with pictures of my characters, notes about their personalities, hopes, and dreams.
And there it was. The reason why they want what they want along with their vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
So, I made them get into a fight and funny thing, they actually started telling me what the story's about.
Sheesh!
Tonight I'll take the night off to get out of my pajama clothes, flat iron my hair because Surfer Boy and I go to sushi with my daughter and her fiance.
Happy Friday!
